Le spiagge dorate del Golfo di Gela sono popolate da una coltre di Leopoldia di Gussone, pianta considerata estinta dagli anni Ottanta, poi riscoperta negli anni Novanta grazie agli studi promossi dalla Riserva del Biviere e da enti di ricerca, e che suscita l’interesse internazionale interesse: la Leopoldia di Gussone è infatti una delle specie prioritarie tutelate dalla Direttiva Habitat.

The golden beaches of the Gulf of Gela are populated by a blanket of Leopoldia di Gussone, a plant considered extinct since the eighties, then rediscovered in the nineties thanks to the studies promoted by the Riserva del Biviere and research bodies, and which arouses the international interest: the Leopoldia di Gussone is in fact one of the priority species protected by the Habitat Directive.
